Zombies are a sad case, the proliferation of two street drugs, bath salts and krokidil, it was a matter of time when some unscrupulous pusher combined the two, the intense high puts the user into a crazed state where they have been known to attack and even occasionally cannibalize other people, meanwhile it also causes necrotic lesions to form on the body, 

there are reports in egypt of a growing cult that worships the ancient egyptian gods, specificly Anubis, they are reported to be using the zombie drug as they believe it gives them powers of prophecy.

Finally, when explorers dived to one of the deepest parts of the Mariana trench, the discovered a new species that has been named Kaiju, these creatures are related to giant isopods, but are much more biologically advanced. they reach 7 or 8 feet in height and have the reasoning intellegence similar to octopi or squids, plus their large front claws have an opposable thumb like smaller claw, luckily these things haven't made it even close to the surface
